What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a permanent dental prosthetic, meant to mimic the size, shape, and appearance of your natural tooth. They are composed of two parts, a post and a crown.
Dr. Dittberner will implant a post where the root of your missing tooth used to be. This post sticks out above the gumline. Over a period of 3-6 months after placement, your post will bond permanently with the surrounding gum and jaw tissue, creating an artificial root.
Then, a crown, or artificial tooth, is crafted. This tooth is designed by Dr. Dittberner to have the same shape and appearance as your missing tooth, and it’s then bonded permanently into place, attaching to the implanted dental post.
Who Can Have Dental Implants?
If you are missing one or more teeth, but have a healthy mouth and you follow a regular oral hygiene regimen, you are eligible for dental implants.
However, if you have poor oral hygiene, or the integrity of your gums or jawbone is compromised due to infection or periodontal disease, you may not be eligible for a dental implant.
In addition, if you are missing more than several teeth, dental implants may not be the best choice for you. You may need dental bridges, or a set of partial/full dentures.
To find out if dental implants are right for you, come to the office of Dr. Jason Dittberner today for a comprehensive oral exam.
How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?
The cost of a dental implant will vary based on the material used for the crown, the placement of the original tooth, and a variety of other factors. Typically, the average cost will vary between $1000-$3000.
What Are The Benefits Of Dental Implants?
While dental implants are more expensive than dental bridges or dentures, they have numerous benefits that make them a better overall choice for teeth replacement.
- Permanent and long-lasting – Dentures usually only last around 5 years, and dental bridges tend to wear out after about 15 years. In contrast, dental implants will last a lifetime if cared for properly. This makes them a great investment.
- Totally natural look and feel – Dental implants look and feel exactly like your natural teeth. They are indistinguishable from a natural tooth. When speaking, chewing, or drinking, you won’t even be able to tell the difference between your implant and your natural teeth.
- No special care required – Dental implants do not require specialized care, unlike dental bridges and dentures. Simply brush and floss normally and visit Dr. Dittberner for 6-month teeth cleanings. That’s it!
