Braces For a Better Smile| Jason Dittberner DDS, PC
Braces are the oldest form of orthodontic correction. Using metal brackets, wires, and rubber bands, braces adjust the position of teeth gradually over time. This allows braces to correct issues like malpositioned teeth, crooked teeth, and jaw/bite misalignment issues.
Our Flagstaff dentist, Dr. Jason Dittberner, has years of experience in the field of orthodontics. If you think that you could benefit from straighter teeth or a healthier bite position, contact us at (928) 773-7900 for an appointment and oral examination, or learn more about braces below.
What Is Involved With Getting Braces?
The process of getting braces is simple, non-invasive, and painless. Here’s what you need to know.
The first step of getting braces is an oral examination. Dr. Dittberner will assess your bite and teeth position, and create a customized treatment plan. Then, he will clean your teeth, and prepare them for the application of metal brackets.
Using specialized, semi-permanent dental glue, Dr. Dittberner will apply metal brackets to all of the teeth which require treatment. Then, he will apply archwires to the teeth, and secure these wires with rubber bands. The entire application process usually takes only 1-2 hours.
Placement of your braces is only the first step. Treatment usually takes anywhere from 12 months to 3 years. You will see Dr. Dittberner approximately every 2 weeks for adjustments.
By tightening your archwires over time, Dr. Dittberner will adjust the position of your teeth, according to your specific treatment plan.
How Much Do Braces Usually Cost?
The cost of braces is highly variable. Patients who require only minimal orthodontic correction could pay as little as $3,000, but patients who have more serious orthodontic problems could pay as much as $7,500.
For an accurate cost estimate, contact Dr. Jason Dittberner for an oral exam today. After a comprehensive oral exam, Dr. Dittberner can give you a much more accurate total cost for orthodontic treatment.
How Long Do I Have to Wear Braces?
Again, this depends on your orthodontic needs. The position of your teeth must be adjusted slowly and gradually. Usually, teeth cannot be moved more than a millimeter per month. Because of this, treatment times typically range from 12 months to 3 years.
What Are The Benefits Of Getting Braces?
Braces can be quite expensive, and they take a long time to provide results. However, the benefits of braces make them worth the investment.
- Straighter teeth – Braces straighten and align your teeth, fill in gaps, and correct malpositioned or crooked teeth. This provides you with straighter teeth, and a more attractive smile.
- Proper bite and teeth alignment – If your teeth or bite are misaligned, this can lead to a variety of oral health problems including TMJ/TMD, premature tooth wear, bruxism, and more. Braces align your bite properly, and help you avoid these painful and expensive oral conditions.
- Improved oral hygiene – Crooked teeth are difficult to clean and floss properly. This can increase your risk of tooth decay, or of developing periodontal (gum) disease. A properly aligned smile helps you maintain a better level of oral hygiene.
